Sleek roadsters are almost a thing of the past, but there are a few models still on sale, including the 2025 Mercedes-Benz SL, though it’s technically classed as a 2 + 2 coupe. It features powerful engine options, high-end design, and a near-endless list of advanced tech and safety features. That said, many will balk at its high price tag, limited practicality, and extreme fuel consumption.

What’s New for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
Mercedes revised the SL’s base four-cylinder engine, giving it more power and better responsiveness. The car also gained more standard features, and buyers have more standalone options and packages to choose from in 2025, including a new limited-edition SL 63 MANUFAKTUR Gold Coast variant.
Design
The SL offers an open-top experience and a long hood with a tidy rear-end design. Mercedes offers a few wheel choices, and there are a range of color options available, from mild to wild. Buyers can also choose between four convertible top colors, upgraded exhausts, and exterior appearance packages that include the AMG Night and AMG Extended Night options groups.
Powertrain
Mercedes offers four powertrain options for the 2025 SL. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, making 416 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The SL 55 comes with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that makes 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The SL 64 features the same engine, cranked to 577 horsepower and 590 pounds of torque. At the top of the engine lineup is the SL 63 E Performance’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and electric motor, which make a combined 805 horsepower and 1,047 pound-feet of torque. All engines pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive.

Interior
The SL technically offers four seats, but the back buckets are far from usable for most humans. Nappa leather upholstery comes standard, along with a heated steering wheel, a neck heater, heated and ventilated front seats, and power seats with memory. The front buckets are extremely comfortable, offering great padding and support, and the front cabin area is nicely laid out, with all displays and controls well within reach of the driver.
Technology
Mercedes equips a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and an 11.9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other standard tech features include wireless charging, HD radio, SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth, voice commands, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and an 11-speaker Burmester stereo. Available tech includes an augmented reality navigation system, gesture controls, and a 17-speaker Burmester 3D audio system
