Mercedes’ “S” vehicles have long been its range-topping models, and the GLS-Class SUV is no exception. It brings beefy styling, a load of tech and safety features, and an interior fitting of an ultra-high-end SUV. That said, some of its technologies can be complicated to use, and the GLS is far from affordable, even on the low end.

What’s New for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class
Mercedes made no major changes to the GLS-Class SUV for the 2025 model year. It received a more substantial update in 2024, which included revised styling, updated engines, and a new off-road package for the GLS 580.
Design
While many of Mercedes-Benz’s SUVs have become curvier and sportier, the GLS remains boxy, offering an imposing curb presence and a more upright grille than the automaker’s other models. It’s available with a range of wheel designs, and some trims are offered with appearance packages that change exterior trim and accent colors.
Powertrain
Four powertrains are available for 2025, depending on the trim. The base engine is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, making 375 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The GLS 580 comes with a twin-turbo V8 and mild-hybrid system that make a combined 510 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. The GLS 63 comes with the same setup, cranked to 603 horsepower and 627 pounds of torque, and the Maybach GLS 600 offers a slightly less aggressive configuration that makes 550 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. All engines pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Interior
The new GLS seats six or seven people, depending on the second-row configuration. Models with a second-row bench seat seven, while those with second-row captain’s chairs seat six. Synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, along with heated and ventilated front seats, and power adjustments. Genuine leather upholstery is available, and Mercedes offers heated and ventilated second-row seats. Cargo space is decent, at up to 17.4 cubic feet with the third-row seats upright and 84.7 cubic feet with the second- and third-row seats folded down.
Technology
Mercedes equips a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other standard tech features include a 13-speaker Burmester audio system, HD radio, wireless charging, SiriusXM radio, multiple USB ports, and Bluetooth. Higher trims add second-row wireless charging, five-zone climate controls, and an upgraded Burmester audio system with 26 speakers. Mercedes’ infotainment system offers a ton of great features, but there’s so much going on that it can be difficult to learn the interface at first.
