Overview

The Expedition got styling, infotainment, and feature updates for 2022, so changes for 2023 are minimal.

The 2023 Ford Expedition is the largest and most spacious option in the Blue Oval’s SUV lineup. It provides three rows of seating with ample head- and legroom. The Expedition provides an impressive 104.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the second-and-third rows folded flat. Ford also offers the Expedition Max, which boosts total cargo space to 121.5 cubic feet. The Expedition is one year removed from a 2022 update that saw fresh styling, an updated infotainment system, and new features. It carries over into the 2023 model year with minimal changes.

Trims for the Expedition are XL STX, XLT, Limited, Timberline, King Ranch, and Platinum. The base XL STX model comes standard with four USB ports, three-zone automatic climate control, a Wi-Fi hotspot, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a fully digital instrument panel. It also comes standard with an intuitive touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Moving up to the XLT trim adds satellite radio and a power-folding third row. It also makes some options and packages available.

The Limited trim brings on features such as leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, ambient cabin lighting, wireless device charging, a wall-style power outlet, and a Bang & Olufsen 12-speaker premium stereo.

The Timberline trim is designed for the trail. It comes with 32-inch all-terrain tires, increased ground clearance, beefed-up skid plates, off-road shocks, unique styling elements, and standard four-wheel drive (4WD).

The King Ranch features its own unique styling elements, unique leather upholstery, a larger touchscreen, and an upgraded 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium stereo.

The range-topping Platinum trim adds massaging front seats, active damping suspension, and Ford’s BlueCruise partially autonomous highway driving functionality.

The Expedition comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with various levels of output depending on the trim selected. In standard form (in the XL STX and XLT), it makes 380 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. In the Limited, KR, and Platinum trims, it puts out 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. In Timberline and Stealth trims, it makes 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through a 10-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels or to available four-wheel drive (4WD). When properly equipped (4x2 with Heavy Duty Towing Package), the Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds.

The most efficient version of the Expedition is the standard V6 with RWD. It returns fuel economy of 17 mpg city, 23 highway, and 19 combined. The least efficient version is the Timberline trim, which returns 15 mpg city, 19 highway, and 17 combined.

The Expedition comes standard with driver-assistance features such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. Available driver-assistance features include traffic-sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, front parking sensors, and a 360-degree parking camera.

Base MSRP for the 2023 Ford Expedition is $55,125 for the XL STX. The XLT trim starts at $59,190, the Limited starts at $68,060, and the Timberline starts at $71,400. The King Ranch starts at $78,115, and the Platinum starts at $80,565. The Ford Expedition is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

What owners say

AI Summary · 5 reviews

"Overall, owners appreciate the 2023 Ford Expedition for its excellent family-friendly features and decent gas mileage for a large vehicle. The comfortable ride and generous space for car seats are also highlights. However, some drivers feel the value is fair compared to competitors like Tahoe, noting that it doesn't ride as smoothly but does offer good power."

Very great value for the price. Ford is able to give features that most cannot until a much higher cost.

We were looking for a car to travel with grandkids. It can easily hold 5-6 car seats. It’s easy to move around inside. We love all the safety features
