Overview

The Chevrolet Suburban gets GM's Super Cruise semi-autonomous highway driving system for the 2023 model year.

The 2023 Chevrolet Suburban is a spacious and versatile full-size SUV with tons of room for up to eight passengers and all their gear. The Suburban rides on a sturdy, truck-like platform that delivers impressive capability and cargo space: 144.7 cubic feet, to be exact. Even with the second row in use, the Suburban provides up to 93.8 cubic feet of cargo space. The Suburban was fully redesigned in 2021. For 2023, GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous highway driving system becomes available on higher-level trims.

Trims for the 2023 Suburban are LS, LT, Z71, RST, Premier, and High Country. Standard equipment on the LS includes power-adjustable front seats, three-zone automatic climate control, six USB ports, push-button start, remote start, remote keyless entry, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. It also comes with an easy-to-operate 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Moving up to the LT adds a hands-free power liftgate, heated front seats, leather upholstery, and wireless device charging. The LT also adds a larger 10.2-inch touchscreen and a fully digital instrument panel. The RST trim features dark-accent 22-inch alloy wheels, black side steps, and black roof rails.

The Suburban Z71 features unique styling elements, including red recovery hooks. It also includes added skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a two-speed transfer case. The Z71 is also available with an adaptive air suspension that can be raised for additional ground clearance.

The adaptive suspension comes standard on the Premier trim, as do heated second-row captain’s chairs, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and power-folding third-row seats.

The range-topping High Country trim boasts nearly all the features that are optional on other trims, as well as a rearview camera mirror, unique 22-inch wheels, and the upgraded engine as standard equipment.

The standard engine in the Suburban is a 5.3-liter V8 which makes 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. An upgraded 6.2-liter V8 is standard on the High Country and optional on other trims. It makes 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can also select an optional 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six that puts out 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through a 10-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels or to available four-wheel drive (4WD). When properly equipped, the 2023 Suburban can tow up to 8,300 pounds.

The most efficient setup in the Chevy Suburban is the turbodiesel with RWD; it returns 21 mpg city, 27 highway, and 23 combined. The least efficient is the 6.2-liter V8 with 4WD. That configuration returns 14 mpg city, 18 highway, and 16 mpg combined.

Standard driver-assistance features on the Suburban includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high beams. There are additional high-tech safety features that are either optional or come equipped on higher-tier trims, including adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree parking camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a head-up display, and a rearview camera mirror system. Super Cruise, which is a semi-autonomous highway driving system, is available on the Premier and High County trims.

Base MSRP for the 2023 Chevrolet Suburban is $58,795 for the LS trim. The LT trim starts at $64,295. The RST and Z71 both start at $68,895. The Premier trim starts at $72,195, and the range-topping High-Country starts at $77,445. The Chevrolet Suburban is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Beautiful & generously-sized vehicle that can comfortably accommodate a family of 7-8

Suburban is good option to move a lot of people and still have the power to tow a trailer. Tahoe is basically a short Suburban but you may get disappointed by space behind the 3rd row so going with Suburban gives you better storage for sure. Our big decision was BENCH vs. BUCKET seats for the 2nd row. I dont like the idea of the bench blocking access to 3rd tow so we went with buckets for all 3 Suburbans that we have owned. Suburban compares to Ford Expedition. Going GMC, you are looking at Yukon XL which is same car but better interior options.
