The 2022 Volvo S60 is an upscale premium sedan with muscular styling and a world-class cabin design. Volvo puts an emphasis on safety features as well as premium creature comforts. For 2022, Volvo has simplified the trim lineup and engine offerings. Trims for the S60 are Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription.

Standard features on the Momentum include 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12-inch fully digital instrument panel, a panoramic moonroof, dual-zone climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and choice of synthetic leather or cloth upholstery. It also comes with a portrait-oriented touchscreen with standard Apple CarPlay.

The R-Design adds uniquely sporty exterior details, as well as four-zone climate control, navigation, metal mesh interior inlays, wireless device charging, and a Harman Kardon premium sound system.

The range-topping Inscription pivots away from the sporty R-Design look in favor of more luxury touches. It has chrome styling elements and an elegant cabin with wood trim and other premium materials.

Every trim comes well-equipped with driver assistance features such as forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, rear parking sensors, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control, reverse automatic emergency braking, and the semiautonomous Pilot Assist system are all optional.

The base B5 powertrain is a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It makes 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The T8 Recharge features a twin-charged (turbo-and-supercharged) four-cylinder engine, paired with two electric motors and a larger battery pack in a plug-in-hybrid setup. The T8 makes 400 horsepower. Volvo also offers a Polestar Engineered (Volvo’s motorsport/performance division) variant that puts out 415 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque. All engines route power through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The most efficient powertrain is (unsurprisingly) the T8 AWD Recharge, which returns 60 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent). When the 21-mile electric range is depleted, it returns a combined 30 mpg. The B5 with all-wheel drive 25 mpg city, 33 highway, and 28 combined. The front-wheel-drive B5 powertrain returns 26 mpg city, 35 highway, and 30 combined.

Base MSRP for the 2022 Volvo S60 is $38,950 for a T5 FWD Momentum. The T5 Momentum and T5 R-Design both start at $41,950, and a range-topping T8 AWD Recharge Polestar starts at $64,800. The S60 is backed by a four-year/50,000-mile powertrain warranty.
