The Ford F-250 Super Duty is a truck designed for serious work, but without sacrificing usability for everyday life. It boasts tremendous power for towing and hauling, as well as modern tech and safety features. No matter what trim or configuration you select, you can expect potent engine options and plenty of cabin space. For 2022, Ford upgrades the infotainment system to its intuitive SYNC 4 touchscreen system. It includes wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.
The F-250 is available in single cab, extended Super Cab, and full four-door Crew Cab setups, as well as 6-foot-9-inch and 8-foot beds. Depending on the model selected, a dual-rear-wheel (aka “Dually”) setup is available.
Trims for the F-250 Super Duty include XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited. Standard features on the XL include the smaller 4.2-inch SYNC connectivity screen, a single USB port, voice recognition, and a 4-speaker stereo.
Moving up to the XLT upgrades the infotainment to an 8-inch touchscreen with the older SYNC 3 infotainment system. It includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which you can connect to using one of two USB ports. The XLT also adds a bright chrome grille, a power locking tailgate, cruise control, carpeted floors, and a 4.2-inch instrument panel display.
The Lariat trim adds a digital instrument panel, leather upholstery, a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium stereo system, and the advanced SYNC 4 infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.
The King Ranch features unique two-tone exterior styling and unique saddle-style leather upholstery. It also boasts illuminated running boards, remote tailgate release, fog lights, LED bed lighting, and 20-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, the King Ranch features power-adjustable pedals, a heated steering wheel, and heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable front seats.
Moving up to the Platinum adds heated rear seats, power-deploying running boards, and unique Onyx Black leather upholstery. The range-topping Limited features unique blue leather upholstery, Miko suede headliner, adaptive steering, and a power moonroof.
The standard engine on the F-250 Super Duty is a 6.2-liter gas V8. It puts out 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can also select a 7.3-liter V8 that makes 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. But for the most torque, look to the available 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8. It generates 475 horsepower and an immense 1,050 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through either a six-speed automatic on lower trims or a 10-speed automatic on most other trims, and goes to the rear wheels unless buyers opt for the available four-wheel drive with low range.
When properly equipped (with the diesel engine), the F-250 can tow up to 20,000 pounds in conventional towing and 22,800 pounds with gooseneck/fifth-wheel towing. The F-250 has a payload capacity of 4,260 pounds. To get the most out of its trailering abilities, the F-250 Super Duty is available with Pro-Trailer Backup Assist. This feature takes the headaches out of backing up a trailer, allowing the driver to steer the truck and trailer using a dial on the dash.
Every trim but the base XL comes standard with automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and trailering blind-spot monitoring. The Platinum and Limited trims add adaptive cruise control.
Base MSRP for the 2022 Ford F-250 Super Duty is $37,895 for the XL trim. The XLT trim starts at $42,920. The Lariat trim starts at $51,350 and comes standard in the SuperCab. The King Ranch starts at $62,295, and the range-topping Platinum starts at $69,610. Both the King Ranch and Platinum come standard in the Crew Cab configuration. Gas engines are backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and diesel engines are backed by a five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
