The Impreza is Subaru’s compact car. Available as a sedan or a 5-door hatchback, it does battle against the Volkswagen Jetta and Golf, Hyundai Elantra and Elantra GT, and Honda Civic. For 2020, it gets some light styling updates.
From the outside, Subaru subtly altered the Impreza’s front grille, bumper, and taillights. You also get the option of a new exterior color: Ocean Blue Pearl. Under the hood, however, it’s business as usual. Every Impreza comes standard with a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine with 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard on lower trims, but you can upgrade to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters. Like most Subaru models, the Impreza includes all-wheel drive (AWD) on every configuration. The Impreza achieves fuel economy as high as 24 mpg city, 31 highway, and 26 combined with the manual transmission or 28/36/31 with the CVT.
The Impreza splits its features across four trims: Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited. Included on the Base trim are 16-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, cloth upholstery, a 6.5-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 60/40 split-folding seat. Options consist of 16-, 17-, or 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, body-color heated side mirrors, a power driver’s seat, keyless access and start, automatic headlights, an 8.0-inch infotainment system, and a moonroof.
The Impreza gets Subaru’s EyeSight technology on all configurations equipped with the CVT. It comprises automatic pre-collision braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, sway warning, and lead-vehicle start alert. New for 2020 are automatic power door locks, which automatically unlock in the event of a collision. The only options are blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert. Subaru tends to achieve excellent safety scores, and the Impreza is no exception: both body styles received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) Top Safety Pick + award in 2019.
The Impreza offers a competitive range of compact vehicles with the benefit of standard AWD.

What owners say
"Overall, drivers are really happy with the 2020 Subaru Impreza. They love its ride quality, handling, and fuel efficiency, especially highlighting its all-wheel drive. However, a few owners mentioned minor annoyances like the lack of a power passenger seat in the Limited model and some concerns about color maintenance."
Handles like a dream, feels like the tires are gripping the road! Has all the features I need including a great sound system. Excellent on gas for an AWD vehicle. Im loving my Subaru ❤️
August 3, 2022Transitioning from a 2012 Honda CR-Z to the 2020 Subaru Impreza 5-door hatchback is as seamless as could be - exactly what I wanted. The CVT is so smooth, the backseat is now legal, and the AWD is an upgrade. Great mileage, the shmancy multi-function display, Android Auto, and seat warmers really make this car the ideal successor. I also looked into the Mazda3 and am glad I went the Impreza route - Im sure it also wouldve been a great choice but well never know.
March 6, 2023Love everything about car in relation to interior features. This was a one owner car purchased as my commuter car. The only slightly negative thing is I would have preferred a different color, though the dark blue is very pretty, I just think it easily shows dust and road film so more attention to exterior maintenance in my future.

July 7, 2022Great little car! Quite responsive given the CVT and engine size. Time will tell if its reliable.
March 13, 2022Love the car. Will never have any other car than a Subaru. My former Impreza was hit on driver side by a tractor trailer on a busy interstate. My car was later totaled, but I was not injured and was able to drive the car back home. Totally recommend a Subaru .
March 11, 2024The only thing missing on the Limited model is a power passenger seat. Everything else is great- ride, handling, gas mileage, interior room.
