The Jeep Cherokee straddles the line between a compact and midsize crossover, similar to the Volkswagen Tiguan and Mitsubishi Outlander. It arrived in 2014, then received a facelift in 2019. For 2020, it receives light updates.
The standard engine in the Cherokee is a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder that makes 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. If that’s not enough for you, Jeep provides a big bump with the optional 3.2-liter V6, which makes 271 hp and 239 lb-ft. But perhaps the best option is turbocharged 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine upgrade, with its 270 hp and 295 lb-ft. That last engine is also the fuel-economy champ, with its 23 mpg city, 31 highway, and 26 combined with regular fuel. All three engines bolt to a 9-speed automatic transmission. While front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, Jeep offers three distinct all-wheel drive (AWD) systems on the Cherokee, including one with low-range gearing. All around, the Cherokee maxes out at 4,500 lbs of towing payload.
The 2020 Cherokee lineup includes five trims: the Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, Overland, and Trailhawk. The base Latitude comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED head- and taillights, fog lights, a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB connectivity, 60/40 split-folding seats, and new Amazon Alexa Skills for 2020. Other trims unlock features like leather upholstery, a sunroof, a power liftgate, a windshield de-icer, remote start, an 8.4-inch infotainment system, power-folding mirrors, heated and cooled front seats, and navigation. The Trackhawk gets a unique offroad suspension and special front and rear trail-rated bumpers. You can also choose from two new exterior colors for 2020: Sangria and Spitfire Orange.
The Cherokee’s standard safety content consists solely of a reversing camera. Options include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic detection, and lane-departure warning.
The 2020 Jeep Cherokee is just about the perfect blend of comfort and versatility in a crossover.

What owners say
"Overall, drivers are generally pleased with the 2020 Jeep Cherokee, enjoying its strong performance and comfortable ride. Many favor the V6 engine for its power and smooth handling, alongside the spacious and well-equipped interior. However, some mentioned a lack of power for quick acceleration and expressed dissatisfaction with certain features like the auto-stop function."
This is a great vehicle. It has every feature that I asked for & more. It will have no issue towing my camper or hauling my kayaks.
May 5, 2025I am.... impressed with the 2020 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Specifically, the non-elite version has less fluff and is less likely to need repair amongst the electronics (no panorama roof, no rear tailgate motor, no advanced controls such as advanced cruise control, no heated seats or heated steering wheel & no NAV - etc. It does what it is supposed to do. I am also averaging 28 mpg versus the listed 24 mpg. I also added Falken Wildpeak ATW/3 tires to it (which makes it a better off road vehicle) also. Im pleased as punch with this Cherokee. Its a shame that Stellantis (Chrysler/Jeeps parent company) did not support this line of vehicles for the past 2 years & shut down the Belvidere plant (20 miles away from me) last month. There is zero reason why Stellantis cannot make money on this line of vehicles.
March 10, 2023The vehicle is very capable on and off road. Plenty of power to get up to speed on the highway, pass someone, and 4500lb towing capacity. Also it is the only trailhawk in the lineup to have a true rear locker.

July 29, 2024The only thing I dont like about the 2020 jeep Cherokee is the power. It lacks the take off power I prefer. But other than that its a beautiful vehicle rides smoothly and is comfortable.
June 28, 2022I love my new car! I do wish it had a remote start, but I can add that for less than $350. The Jeep Cherokee Latitude Sports Plus 4x4 has a smooth ride, decent gas mileage, and lots of extras!
June 15, 20222020 Cherokee limited was my first Jeep a couple of years ago. Chose Cherokee over the Grand Cherokee based on fuel economy. Had a radiator leak at 35k miles. Warranty fixed it. No other issues. Car has gr8 features, good power from 3.2 v6, and comfortable. Gave the Cherokee to my daughter, bought a new Cherokee limited a year ago for my wife, and a Cherokee Trailhawk last week for another daughter. Obviously I trust their reliability.
February 26, 2023It could have a little more power to be honest but with the 4x4 functionality and AWD when in auto mode for the terrain setting its more than enough for a daily commuter. It has a great interior with a nice infotainment screen that is user friendly. Mine came with a year of free Sirius XM radio. Great for road trips, vacations, with plenty of cargo space. So far I have a little over 500 miles on it and love it
October 6, 2020Excellent driving experience. Great handling. I prefer the V6 model as it handles well on the road and had great horsepower
September 30, 2020Love this Cherokee, we had a 2014 Limited and had excellent service out of it. This one is 4 wd, V 6 which is only engine I would choose for this model. Good ride, quiet ride and array of safety and comfort features.
January 7, 2021It had all the bells and whistles but it was too small for myself. A Grand Cherokee fit much better
