The Ford Flex’s versatility and space have allowed this large crossover to remain a popular choice for buyers since its release in 2009. The 2019 Ford Flex continues to offer practical features and unique design elements while adding a handful of necessary updates.
The Flex comes with one of two powertrains. The base setup is a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 287 horsepower, which is paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission with either standard front-wheel drive (FWD) or optional all-wheel-drive (AWD). This powertrain is rated at 16 miles per gallon city, 23 highway, and 19 combined with FWD, and those numbers drop to 15, 21, and 17 with AWD. From there, Limited buyers can opt for the premium EcoBoost engine: a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that produces 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The more-powerful EcoBoost powertrain is also linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission with standard AWD, which achieves 16 city, 22 highway, and 18 combined miles per gallon on regular fuel.
Like previous years, Ford will offer the 2019 Flex in just three trims: SE, SEL, and Limited. SE kicks things off with 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth seating, automatic headlights, power heated mirrors, a capless fuel filler, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, USB input, four 12-volt power outlets, and a 6-way power driver’s seat. SEL adds 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless access and start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, simulated-wood appliques, and remote start. Leather upholstery, a premium audio system, a power liftgate, second-row bucket seats, and a panoramic sunroof are all optional upgrades.
Lastly, Limited comes with 19-inch painted alloy wheels, leather upholstery, a power liftgate, HID headlights, LED tail lights and fog lights, chrome door handles, a premium Sony audio system, and memory settings for the driver’s seat, mirrors, and foot pedals. Limited can be upgraded with second-row bucket seats, power-folding third-row seats, a panoramic sunroof, 10-way heated and cooled front seats, and a heated steering wheel. For those wanting a sportier look, SEL and Limited can both be equipped with an appearance package that decks out much of the car in gloss black and adds black-and-gray leather upholstery and special logos throughout the cabin.
In the realm of safety, every Flex comes standard with a reversing camera and sensors. Blind-spot monitoring is optional on SEL and standard on Limited. Limited also comes with active park assist, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning. The Flex performed reasonably in tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2018.

What owners say
"Overall, drivers find the 2019 Ford Flex to be a spacious and comfortable vehicle, ideal for families and road trips. Many appreciate its roomy interior and luxury-like feel, highlighting its ability to handle lots of cargo. However, some drivers mention issues like wind noise and bland design elements as drawbacks."
I love the paint color and the black rims and accents. The sunroofs are an added bonus. I love them. I think the car is a good value for the year and mileage. It has the room for passengers that I want. It is a roomy, comfortable care for my family and I. I would compare it to a van but with a more sporty, classy style.
March 6, 2026Owned twice before. One of the best models Ford ever made. Good build quality and value
November 22, 2024Great vehicle, very spacious. Good price. Affordable deal for an SUV.

December 15, 2024This car is amazing and has all the bells and whistles I wanted. The Flex is fun to drive and quiet for its size and class.
October 10, 2022The 2019 Ford Flex handles and rides like a luxury sedan. It’s a great value for an AWD vehicle that seats 7. The retro style is fun, but the interior is plush!!
September 20, 2021The Flex Limted Ecoboost/Turbo with AWD and Multi-panel Sunroof is THE BEST FAMILY VEHICLE. We drove our 2012 Limted for 10 years to 170k miles before the (now known) water pump issue ruined our engine. Ford hasn’t fixed this issue, but now that we are aware of it & know the signs to look and listen for, we bought another 2019 Limited AWD with 60k miles and will make effort to prevent the problem. Ford Flex forums tell us that we are not the only ones doing this. It’s great for camping, family road trips, hauling our kids & sports equipment without being smooshed. There’s LOTS of space! Our elderly parents (70s & 80s) say it is the easiest vehicle for them to get in/out of when transporting them to appts or events. Best vehicle ever, better than minivans! More space than Honda pilot or the Toyota suvs on the market.
December 21, 2023First and far most, the car has a love it or hate it design. But that’s it’s only flaw. Yes it’s true that Ford made very few changes to this model inside and out, and for that I blame Ford. As an owner, you look at it as a perfect box for the occasion. You can pack the family up with all the toys and use the roof for overflow. Not only do it give you and the Misses the ride and feel of luxury and comfort, but it also provides space for the kids to tag along without feeling crowded. The echo boost provides an endless amount of power plus the feel of: “ It’s No Problem “ I’d love to see Ford make a limited edition with a plush stitch design. For short: It’s a great car/suv.
March 1, 2021The Flex is the most comfortable car for long trips as well as local errands. We travel a LOT and comfort is of utmost importance.
October 12, 2020Best SUV! It’s lower profile is easier to find garage parking for. And much easier to get in and out of. LOTS of room for anything!
May 7, 2021It can carry the whole family, or just grand kids plus dogs! Fold down the seats and that new couch slides right in. This is THE best road trip car ever!
