Dealer's description
In the Mid 1930s, Ford Motor Company president Edsel Ford was beginning to worry about the ever-increasing competition from Oldsmobile and Buick. Ford needed a car that offered style, comfort and luxury at a mid-market price, one that could bridge the gap between top of the line Ford models and the ultra-exclusive Lincoln K series. The DeLuxe line of upmarket Fords was introduced for 1938, alongside the Lincoln-Zephyr. These new DeLuxe Fords featured different styling from their standard counterparts, as well as well-equipped cabins with additional luxury features. Though mechanically speaking, they were largely the same as their junior siblings. The styling was one step ahead of the standard Fords and by 1939 you could see the family resemblance to that of the gorgeous Lincoln-Zephyr. The prominent pointed hood and vertical grilles hinted at a baby Zephyr and many customers took notice, responding with strong sales. The 221cubic inch, 85 horsepower flathead V-8 remained largely unchanged but was good enough to provide hearty performance for the DeLuxe. The DeLuxe line sold well until Ford regrouped yet again and further simplified their strategy, with the newly-formed Mercury division taking over the reins from the DeLuxe in the middle of the Ford Motor Company range. This is a very nice example of body on frame restored car at some point that still shows very well. It did just receive a full mechanical restoration as well at the tune of $22,000 so needless to say the car starts beautifully, runs very strong, goes through all the gears with ease and goes down the road so nicely. We welcome any questions and inspections here in our Traverse City location.
