Dealer's description
1999 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra For SaleThis 1999 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra coupe represents a significant year in the Cobra's history. It was the first Cobra built on the New Edge body and the first to receive an independent rear suspension, which set it apart from the solid-axle GT and from every Cobra that came before it. This example shows 54,000 original miles and has been modified in a focused, naturally aspirated direction rather than being pushed toward forced induction, with the factory drivetrain left intact underneath.Power comes from the 4.6L DOHC 32-valve modular V8, factory rated at 320 horsepower and built by hand at Ford's Romeo engine plant. The engine has been opened up with a JLT intake, upgraded camshafts, long tube headers, and a Borla exhaust system, a combination that works together on airflow from the intake tract through the collectors rather than addressing one restriction at a time. A camshaft change in a four-valve modular is meaningful work given the four cams involved, and it suggests this car was built by someone with a plan rather than assembled from a catalog. Gear changes go through the factory Tremec T-45 five-speed manual, now fitted with a Hurst short throw shifter that tightens up the throws considerably over the stock unit, with power reaching the ground through the 3.27 rear gearing.Underneath, BC Racing coilovers replace the factory struts and shocks, giving adjustability for both ride height and damping while keeping the SVT independent rear suspension the car is known for. Braking is handled by the factory four-wheel disc setup, and both the pads and the tires have plenty of life left, so the car can be driven and enjoyed without a list of items waiting on the new owner. The exterior is finished in black and has recently received a ceramic coating, and the dark gray interior presents very well for the mileage. For buyers who have been watching the SN95 and New Edge market climb, a 54,000-mile Cobra coupe with a coherent bolt-on package and an unmolested factory drivetrain sits in a narrow spot between the untouched collector cars and the heavily modified ones. It is a car that can be driven as built, or returned closer to stock without much difficulty.NFI Empire specializes in classic, exotic, modified, and luxury vehicles.
