Dealer's description
Introduced for 1967, Mercury's Cougar was based on Ford's Mustang platform and was a more luxurious take on the new, so-called Pony Car sports coupe (and convertible) segment. More upscale styling, featuring hide-away headlights and sequential point the way taillights marked Mercury's sharp and sleek personal luxury/performance car. Here we have a Unicorn of a Mercury -- a 1969 Cougar convertible boasting its original, numbers-matching 351 Windsor V8 hooked up to the original 4-speed manual gearbox. Supported by a Marti report, this is just one of 26 Cougar drop tops that was built like this. This cool cat's rock-solid and arrow-straight body looks fantastic in its original hue of Dark Aqua that's complemented by the nice chrome and stainless-steel trim. The underside and trunk are clean, and a convertible top boot as well as a jack are included. The hide-away headlights and sequential rear turn signals work fine while a set of BF Goodrich Radial T/As wrapped around steelies with center caps and trim rings add to the Cougar's considerable curb appeal. Hop inside and you'll note the original interior is likewise impressive and, this being a Cougar, quite luxurious with its thick pleated seats, woodgrain dash/console/door accents and a three-spoke Rim-Blow steering wheel. The original AM radio is still in the dash and atop the 4-speed's stick is the original shift knob. Under way, the Cougar runs and drives like the pampered, properly-maintained 62k mile car that it is. Grab a lower gear, lean on the 351 and this cat moves out swiftly, sounding great in the process. On a long weekend cruise, this cat is comfortable and quiet, unreeling highway miles with ease. With its combination of handsome looks, impressive condition, rarity, high fun-to-drive factor and affordable price tag, this 1969 Mercury Cougar checks all the boxes for a fantastic entry into the classic car world. Financing is available as is door to door enclosed transport. Interesting trades are always considered. Call us today to schedule a viewing at 603-361-3693.
