Dealer's description
2003 Subaru Baja 2.0L NA H4 SOHC 16V Overview This 2003 Subaru Baja is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter H4 (horizontally opposed/boxer) engine with a single overhead cam and 16 valves. The powerplant is designed for a balance of everyday drivability, predictable low-end torque and fuel economy. Engine management is handled by electronic fuel injection, with standard emissions controls and an exhaust catalyst system. Drivetrain and chassis Factory equipment typically pairs the 2.0L engine with a five-speed manual transmission as standard, with a four-speed automatic available as an option. Symmetrical all-wheel drive is standard, providing full-time power distribution to all four wheels. The front suspension uses MacPherson struts and the rear is an independent multi-link design, tuned for stability and a composed ride. Braking is by disc at the front and typically disc at the rear, with power assist; anti-lock braking and traction control were available on some factory trim packages. Exterior and cargo The Bajas body combines a four-door passenger cabin with a short pickup-style cargo bed. The bed is molded into the body with integrated tie-down points and a lockable tailgate, designed for light hauling and flexible cargo use. Exterior equipment on the factory base configuration generally includes body-color bumpers and trim, halogen headlamps, and a full-size rear hatch/tailgate area. Roof rails and an integrated cargo rack were available on higher trims. Interior and seating The cabin layout is oriented around practical utility and comfort. Factory standard items commonly include cloth upholstery, front bucket seats, and a rear seat that folds to expand cargo capacity. The instrument panel provides a conventional layout with speedometer, tachometer and auxiliary gauges. The steering column typically offers tilt adjustment. Convenience and comfort features Standard convenience equipment on most factory Baja models includes air conditioning, power windows and power door locks, and power outside mirrors. A basic AM/FM stereo with a single-disc CD player (and in some configurations a cassette/CD unit) was standard on many builds, with upgraded audio and speakers available on higher trim levels. Other common items include a center console with storage, cupholders, and carpeting/floor mats. Safety Basic factory safety equipment generally includes dual front airbags and three-point seat belts for all outboard seating positions. Child seat anchors (LATCH) were fitted to rear seating in accordance with regulations. Anti-lock brakes, side airbags and additional active safety features were offered on certain option packages or higher trims. Summary As delivered from the factory, a 2003 Baja equipped with the 2.0L SOHC 16-valve boxer engine offers a compact, utility-oriented package: a low-profile four-cylinder engine, selectable transmissions, full-time Symmetrical AWD, and a practical interior with a small cargo bed. The emphasis is on versatility and all-weather capability, with a straightforward suite of comfort and safety items that can be expanded by trim or option packages.
