When Buick decided that they needed a car to compete with Pontiac's GTO, they chose the Skylark intermediate for their Gran Sport option in 1965. By 1968 the Gran Sport had become a separate series and the resulting automobiles are some of the most understated, yet potent, muscle cars from the era.
