Dealer's description

2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS factory-equipped description Powertrain and drivetrain - 3.8L V6 producing 200 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The layout is front-wheel drive. The combination emphasizes smooth, low-end torque for everyday driving while providing the SS trims slightly firmer response compared with standard Monte Carlo models. Chassis and suspension - SS-specific suspension tuning with firmer springs and revised dampers to reduce body roll and sharpen handling relative to base and LS models. Stabilizer bars and suspension geometry were calibrated for a sportier feel while retaining a comfortable highway ride. Factory-fit alloy wheels and performance-oriented tires are part of the SS package to support the upgraded chassis. Exterior features - Distinctive SS exterior styling including a unique front fascia, lower body cladding and SS badging. A color-matched rear spoiler and monochromatic trim give the coupe a more athletic appearance than non-SS versions. Exterior mirrors are body-colored on the SS, and the profile is that of a two-door coupe with a sweeping roofline and a coupe-style greenhouse. Interior and comfort - Coupe seating for up to five with sport-styled front seats as standard on the SS. Upholstery is factory cloth by default, with leather available as an option. Standard convenience items typically include air conditioning, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry, cruise control and a tilt steering column for driver comfort and adjustability. Audio and electronics - Factory stereo equipment included an AM/FM radio with CD capability (and cassette in some factory configurations), and a basic speaker package appropriate to the trim level. Basic instrument cluster and driver information readouts are straightforward and focused on essential vehicle functions. Safety and security - Standard safety equipment for the model year included dual front airbags and three-point seat belts for all seating positions. The Monte Carlos body structure incorporated side-impact protection features such as reinforced door beams. Anti-lock brakes and side airbags were available or included on certain configurations or packages during the 2002 model year. Brakes and steering - Power steering and a brake system sized to the vehicle were fitted from the factory. The SSs braking and steering responses were calibrated to match the sportier suspension, providing a more responsive driving feel compared with non-SS Monte Carlos. Overall - The 2002 Monte Carlo SS was offered as a sport-oriented, front-wheel-drive coupe that combined the 3.8L V6s torque-focused power delivery with upgraded suspension, wheels and distinct exterior styling. Factory equipment emphasized driver convenience and a sportier appearance and feel while maintaining the everyday usability and interior space expected of a mid-size coupe.
