Dealer's description
1970 Datsun 240Z Series 1 Yellow exterior with Black interior. This example combines the classic styling and mechanical simplicity that made the Z-car an instant icon with exceptionally low use over the years, showing under 7,000 actual miles (averaging less than 1,000 miles per year). The vehicle is in excellent overall condition and presents as a well-preserved example of the original Series 1 specification. Exterior The 240Zs timeless fastback silhouette is executed here in a vibrant Yellow finish that complements the cars long hood and short deck proportions. Series 1 cues remain intact: slim chrome bumpers with overriders, clean brightwork around the greenhouse, and the low, purposeful front fascia that houses round headlamps with chrome trim rings. The front grille retains the classic minimalist treatment with the Z emblem positioned prominently. The bodylines are straight, panel gaps are even, and the paint displays uniform coverage with a glossy finish consistent with careful storage and limited use. Original-style exterior trim pieces door handles, mirror, and badges are present and in excellent cosmetic condition. Glass is clear and free of visible cracks or deep pitting; rubber seals and weatherstrips are in sound condition for the vehicles age. Powertrain and Drivetrain Under the long hood sits the original L24 inline-six engine a 2.4-liter, single overhead cam unit that was factory-equipped with dual side-draft carburetors. This powerplant is known for its smoothness and torque delivery and, in period factory specification, produced horsepower in the neighborhood of the original factory ratings (approximately mid-to-high 100s). The engine bay has the tidy, uncluttered layout typical of the era, with accessible service points, original-style air cleaners, and period-correct ancillary components. The drivetrain connects to a factory 4-speed manual transmission (the standard offering on early 240Zs), with a mechanically simple linkage and direct feel. The rear differential is conventional for the period and provides the characteristic balanced handling and drivability that enthusiasts expect from a Z. Chassis, Suspension and Brakes The 240Z Series 1 was engineered around a lightweight unibody, double-wishbone (unequal length A-arm) front suspension with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers, and a semi-trailing arm rear suspension a configuration that delivers composed handling for a grand touring coupe. This car retains that factory suspension architecture, with suspension components appearing complete and well-maintained. Stopping power is provided by front disc brakes and rear drum brakes as originally equipped, delivering reliable braking performance consistent with factory intent. Steering is manual (power steering was not standard on early examples) and remains direct and communicative. Wheels and Tires The car wears period-appropriate wheels that match the original appearance compact diameter steel wheels with original-style center caps fitted with performance-oriented tires of appropriate size for the era and safe road use today. Wheel and tire condition aligns with the vehicles low mileage, showing minimal wear. Interior and Comfort Features The interior, finished in Black, preserves the classic two-seat sport coupe layout with driver-focused ergonomics. Upholstery is in excellent condition for a vintage vehicle, with black vinyl-covered bucket seats that exhibit taut surfaces, intact stitching, and supportive bolstering. The door panels, carpeting, and headliner are in similarly good order with no notable sagging or damage. The dash is a hallmark of the 240Z design: a simple, functional instrument panel with a large, central tachometer and speedometer within the drivers primary sightline, accompanied by auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The dash top and fascia present the original period styling, with a woodgrain or simulat
