Dealer's description

The 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet arrived during an era when the very existence of the rear-engined icon was in question. Thanks to the vision of then-CEO Peter Schutz, the 911 was not only saved but dramatically evolved into the 3.2 Carrera, which is widely regarded as the last truly "analog" air-cooled Porsche. Succeeding the 911 SC in 1984, the Carrera name was deliberately revived for this potent new model. Its soul was an enlarged 3.2 L flat-six engine, which incorporated technical advancements like the Bosch Motronic DME (Digital Motor Electronics), the first single unit to simultaneously manage both ignition and fuel injection. This modern brain, coupled with components like a crankshaft derived from the 911 Turbo, boosted output to 217 BHP in North American specification, providing an exhilarating, yet more reliable, driving experience. The 1986 model year is a desirable benchmark within the production run. It benefited from handling enhancements such as stiffer anti-roll bars and offered the open-air pleasure of the Cabriolet, a body style that had recently been reintroduced. For 1986, the soft top also gained the convenience of electric operation. Marrying classic, time-tested styling with significant mechanical refinement, the 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet secured the 911's future and cemented its legacy as one of the finest driver's cars of the 1980s. The vehicle offered is an exceptional 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Cabriolet, representing a stunning, time-capsule example of a beloved modern classic. A favorite among Porsche purists, the Carrera 3.2 succeeded the 911 SC in 1984, bringing improved reliability-notably revised chain tensioners-and, for the 1986 model year, uprated anti-roll bars for enhanced handling. What truly sets this particular Cabriolet apart is its sensational condition and incredibly low mileage, showing a mere 4,699 original miles when cataloged. It is presented in the rare and striking color combination of Grand Prix White paint over a contrasting Burgundy leather interior with a matching burgundy soft top. The pristine exterior is complemented by white Fuchs wheels and desirable factory options, including the rear spoiler and sport seats. This highly collectible example received a full service in 2021, which included an essential upgrade of the air-conditioning system to modern R134A refrigerant. Power is delivered by a 3,164 CC SOHC Flat 6-Cylinder Engine utilizing Bosch Motronic Fuel Injection to produce 217 BHP at 5,900 RPM. This power is managed by a 5-Speed Manual Transaxle and the car rides on a fully independent torsion-bar suspension with shock absorbers, stopped by 4-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. This is one of the best existing examples with less than 5,000 miles. The vehicle is complete with its Owner's Manual, and Tool Kit, making it a prime candidate for the most discerning Porsche collection.
