New & Used 2026 Land Rover Defender for SaleNationwide

Is the 2026 Land Rover Defender a good car?

The 2026 Land Rover Defender earns an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

It stands out because it blends serious off-road ability with everyday civility, and it offers multiple body styles if you want flexibility in how you use it. For 2026, you also get subtle styling changes, a larger touchscreen, and new color and accessory options, which freshen the package without changing its core identity.

The main trade-offs are that it has poor fuel economy and can get expensive quickly. Even so, the Defender’s mix of toughness and refinement gives you a character that remains uncommon in the segment, especially if you want something that feels rugged without giving up a polished on-road personality.

With 36.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a moderate amount of market leverage.

Is the 2026 Land Rover Defender reliable?

The 2026 Land Rover Defender is presented as a vehicle that keeps its rugged identity while adding more everyday civility, and its standard four-wheel drive and off-road-focused hardware reinforce that durable character. The powertrain lineup includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with mild-hybrid assistance, and a supercharged 5.0-liter V8, so you have a range of mechanical complexity depending on trim.

The performance notes also point to a well-rounded setup: an eight-speed automatic, standard 4WD, and off-road systems designed to simplify rough-terrain driving. On the cost side, the Defender’s pricing can climb quickly, and that matters for long-term ownership because higher purchase prices and more complex hardware can raise your exposure to expensive repairs and upkeep.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Land Rover Defender?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 96.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the specific truck you’re considering has a clean record, especially if it has been used for off-road driving or heavily optioned. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on wear items, electronics, and any signs that the vehicle has been pushed hard on rough terrain. Pay close attention to condition, because the Defender’s premium pricing means cosmetic and mechanical issues can matter more than they would on a cheaper SUV.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin mixes rugged style with upscale quality, and the interior is designed to feel distinctive rather than overly screen-centric. Base versions can be less lavish than a fully optioned luxury SUV, so check whether the equipment level matches what you want.
• Powertrain: You can find a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with mild-hybrid assistance, and a supercharged 5.0-liter V8. The lineup also includes a high-performance Octa with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a surround-view camera system, and a driver-attention monitor.
• Infotainment: The 2026 model gets a larger 13.1-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster on most trim levels.
• Fuel efficiency: The Defender 110 is rated at 20 mpg combined, with 18 mpg city and 22 mpg highway, while the Defender Octa is rated at 17 mpg combined, with 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway.

Which 2026 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2026 Land Rover Defender is offered in 5 trim levels: 90 S, 110 S, 130 S, Defender X, and Octa.

Here's the short version:

• 90 S: This is the shortest body style, so it suits you if you want the most maneuverable Defender and like the classic two-door format.
• 110 S: This is the best-value choice for most buyers because it gives you the core Defender experience in the most versatile four-door layout.
• 130 S: Choose this if you want the stretched body style and more space-oriented packaging.
• Defender X: This trim adds more black trim and a blackout treatment for the front fascia and hood, so it fits you if you want a more aggressive look.
• Octa: This is the high-performance model with massive fender flares, optional 33-inch all-terrain tires, and the most extreme capability and hardware in the lineup.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, with standard driver-assistance features covering the basics well.
