How much does the 2024 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices are up 10.34% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 3,917 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Generally — the 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.2/5 user rating and a 4.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 6/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, power, and styling, and they also call out the improved ride quality and features like heated seats and blind spot monitoring. The 4Runner’s rugged, off-road-focused character fits you best if all-terrain capability matters more than modern polish, and it also offers plenty of cargo space.

The trade-offs are clear: it trails newer rivals in technology, safety features, fuel efficiency, and power, and the driving experience is held back by poor handling and sluggish performance. Even so, 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you want this formula.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, durable, and well suited to long-term use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes its strong reputation for reliability and durability, which lines up with the way many shoppers use a 4Runner: as a tough, keep-it-for-years SUV.

That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance history and overall wear, especially if the vehicle saw frequent off-road use or heavy daily commuting.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a truck that may have been used for trail duty or towing. Focus on signs of hard use, interior wear, and any evidence that the vehicle’s rugged life has been harder than average.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The range-topping TRD Pro adds underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a beefy tubular roof rack, while the interior still shows its age with old-school styling and last-generation technology features. The base setup is more basic, so you should pay close attention to whether the trim you’re considering includes the equipment you want.
• Powertrain: All 2024 4Runners use a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Most trims are rear-wheel drive with four-wheel drive available, while the TRD Pro comes standard with 4WD and a two-speed transfer case.
• Safety package: The standard suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The TRD Pro and Limited trims also add a surround-view camera system, and only the Limited gets front and rear parking proximity sensors.
• Infotainment: You get standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on an eight-inch touchscreen. The system is basic by modern standards, and it lacks some of the off-road-specific apps and gauges you can get in some rivals.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner is rated at 16 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined, which is a weak point if you drive a lot of miles.

Which 2024 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 1 trim level: SR5.

Here's the short version:

The SR5 is the trim to focus on if you want the 4Runner’s core ruggedness without chasing the pricier specialty versions. It gives you the basic formula, but you should be aware that the model’s age shows up in its technology, handling, and fuel economy. If you want the best value, this is the trim to compare first against the market, then decide whether the added equipment on higher trims is worth the jump.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, while the TRD Pro and Limited add extra camera coverage and the Limited adds parking sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,917 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 10.34% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 91.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $40,856, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $46,975 sits slightly above last year's $42,574.

That upward move suggests the market still places value on the 4Runner’s rugged reputation and loyal following. For a future seller, that can help support pricing, especially if your vehicle is clean, well maintained, and equipped with desirable features.

The model’s strong identity matters here: buyers who want a durable, off-road-focused SUV often keep coming back to the 4Runner, which helps sustain demand. Even with its age-related drawbacks, that demand can work in your favor when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings for overall and frontal crash protection, five-star ratings in side impacts, and three-star ratings in rollover evaluations from NHTSA. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it a Good rating for the original moderate frontal overlap crash test and side protection tests, but the newer small overlap frontal test includes Marginal and Poor results.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

You get adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The TRD Pro and Limited trims also add a surround-view camera system, while only the Limited includes front and rear parking proximity sensors.

The mixed crash-test results are the main caution here, especially the incomplete small-overlap performance. If safety is a top priority, you should weigh those results carefully against the 4Runner’s other strengths.

Should I buy a 2024 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices are up 10.34% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It remains a rugged, off-road-focused SUV with strong reliability and durability.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $43,359, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $46,975 average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring and a limited-production 40th Anniversary Special Edition.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $48,873, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $46,975 average.
• It brings a full redesign with more capability, power, comfort, technology, and a hybrid option.

The bottom line: If you want the familiar rugged 4Runner formula, the 2024 is the safer bet than waiting for a newer redesign. If price matters most, the 2023 can save you money while still delivering the core experience.
