CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Polestar 2
overall

Summary
With 431 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,191.00, 37.6% of 2022 Polestar 2s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Polestar 2 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
91.9% of 2022 Polestar 2 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Polestar 2 stands out as the brand’s first major push into the luxury electric-vehicle market, with Polestar aiming to compete against Tesla and Audi. It also carries the backing of Geely Car Groups, which gives the fledgling brand a stronger foundation than many new automakers have. That positioning helps define the car’s appeal: it is meant to feel like a serious premium EV rather than a niche experiment.
What makes the 2022 Polestar 2 distinctive is the combination of stylish design, impressive technology, and premium interior materials. Those strengths give it a polished, upscale character that should attract buyers looking for a modern electric car with a luxury feel. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though, because visibility is poor, cargo space is limited, and the car is described as poor value for money.

Comparable models Ive driven include Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, both of which I loved. My wife and I were fortunate enough to have been given access to a 2021 Launch Edition for a couple months, with no intention of buying it. Well that intention changed about the minute we took our first drive, and our sentiment only intensified after that, finding more and more subtle features that we just love about the thing. Instantly you feel immediate torque. The cocoon like cockpit makes you feel super secure in the car, and in absolute control for a better driving experience. the digital dashboard cluster shows the map and other data, while the 11.2-inch tablet touch panel provides easy intuitive access to features like climate control, safety features, maps, charging locations, individual or overhead camera, music sources, the Vivaldi browser, et al. The accelerator pedal long travel is just perfect, and not twitchy like others that felt like it was going to take off on the slightest press. Steering wheel feels nice and tight, not to floaty, nor too twitchy like a video game. This car just feels so right and didnt take very long at all to get accustomed to. Best handling car Ive ever piloted, for superb driving experience. theres nothing not to like, other than occasional glitches like linking my phone one when wife unlocked with her key fob, set her profile (apps, one pedal drive off), her seat position etc, but strangely blue toothed to my phone. Update to P1.9 seems to have corrected it since we can not reproduce. the car has nice overhead connect button that calls Polestar. I had to use this once when friend was messing with the overhead SOS button. favorite feature might be Tesla-like regenerative braking that Polestar calls One-pedal drive, where you seldom have to use the brakes, its tuned just so perfectly and feels great with visual graph showing you how much charge youre putting back into the battery. least favorite might be that Polestar scaled down the non-Pilot pack too much, eliminating safety features we feel essential, like 360 cam thats useful to perfectly position it in a tight garage. We ended up using the car for recreation, parked in garage to listen to music and just hang out. Id do wish they had Apple CarPlaycompleted (though Google Automotive OS is really nicely integrated), a Head-Up Display, and streaming apps to watch Netflix using the 13-speaker HK surround sound system. we got so many compliments and gawkers, wife was so happy to hear mid 20-something shout out AWESOME CAR. it made her day. she now despises driving her gas car, so were committed to EV, soon to be leasing a Polestar 2 and slapping down money on a Polestar 3 the second pre-orders become available later this year for delivery next. in summary, its been 25+ years since Ive had so much fun driving, just plain driving when it was fun before the novelty wore off. Id arrive home from an errand and try and find somewhere else I needed to go, or take the long way home bc I didnt want the music to end. recommended : Strong Buy

Nice looking car. Smaller than I expected on the inside. The lack of thought to cupholders and the waste of space with the center console really hinder it being a comfortable and usable experience for the price.

2022 Polestar 2 Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2022 Polestar 2 prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsHow much does the 2022 Polestar 2 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $23,245 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,208.63 |
| Year-Round High | $26,629.82 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $26,610 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.64% |
Prices have softened 12.64% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 439 listings available, which suggests a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $22,208.63, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 a good car?
Generally — the 2022 Polestar 2 earns a 4/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
It comes across as a serious premium EV rather than a niche experiment, with stylish design, impressive technology, and premium interior materials. That makes it especially appealing if you want a modern electric car with an upscale feel.
The trade-offs are visibility, cargo space, and value: the car’s poor rearward visibility and limited cargo room are real compromises, and the expert notes also call out poor value for money. For shoppers who prioritize design and tech over practicality, those drawbacks may be acceptable.
Only 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you may need to shop selectively to find the best value.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Polestar 2 is positioned as a premium EV with strong backing, and its ownership experience is built around convenience. The expert notes also point to three years of complimentary service and maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership friction.
Its electric powertrain and software-forward approach suggest a modern, low-drama ownership profile, especially if you keep up with updates and charging habits. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about how well the car was maintained and whether its tech features still work as intended.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Polestar 2?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
Even so, you should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on visibility-related wear, interior condition, and whether the tech and driver-assistance features operate correctly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 2022 model starts with a lower-priced Single Motor version and a Dual Motor version, but the trade-off is that features once standard may now be optional. If you want the fuller experience, look closely at whether the car has the Performance Pack and Plus Pack.
- Powertrain: The Single Motor setup uses front-wheel drive and is tuned for longer range, while the Dual Motor setup adds all-wheel drive, stronger output, and quicker acceleration. The dual-motor version is the one to seek if you want the more engaging performance character.
- Safety package: Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert are standard. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are part of the Pilot Pack.
- Infotainment: The car uses a fully embedded Google-based system with built-in voice control, Google Play apps, and regular OTA updates. It also includes four USB-C outlets and three years of complimentary AT&T data service.
- Fuel efficiency: The Single Motor model is estimated at 265 miles of range, while the Dual Motor model is estimated at 249 miles. The dual-motor version can charge at up to 155 kW and is expected to go from 10% to 80% in about 33 minutes on a DC fast charger.
Which 2022 Polestar 2 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Polestar 2 is offered in 2 trim levels: Polestar 2 Dual Motor and Polestar 2 Single Motor.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The Single Motor version is the value play if you want the lower entry price and longer estimated range, but you give up all-wheel drive and the stronger performance of the dual-motor setup.
- Premium/top trim: The Dual Motor version is the better pick if you want the quickest acceleration, all-wheel drive, and the more premium-feeling performance character. If you want the car to feel most like a luxury EV, this is the one to target.
The Pilot Pack adds important safety and convenience features, including blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Polestar 2?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough price softness to create opportunities.
- Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 439 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.64% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,208.63, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Polestar 2's resale value?
The current average of $23,245 sits slightly below last year's $26,610.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to resell later, the current softness may limit near-term upside, but it also means you may avoid paying into a peak.
The Polestar 2’s premium positioning and strong tech appeal should help it stay relevant with used EV shoppers. Still, resale will likely depend on condition, equipment, and how well the car’s software and battery-related systems age over time.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 safe?
It has not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection is standard, along with lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are available with the Pilot Pack.
A key caveat is that several important driver-assistance features are not standard, so you’ll want to verify whether a used example has the right package before you buy.
Should I buy a 2022 Polestar 2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds a lower starting price and a new Single Motor option while keeping the brand’s premium EV identity.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $21,185, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,245 average.
- It offers standard all-wheel drive and a powerful, quiet driving experience.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model year with more pricing flexibility and a broader trim lineup, the 2022 is the better starting point. If your priority is spending less up front and you value standard AWD, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly alternative.
