CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Tesla Model X

Summary
With 328 currently listed for sale and an average price of $36,439, 28.7% of 2020 Tesla Model X listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Tesla Model X 4.62 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Tesla Model X stands out as a large, all-electric SUV that blends family-friendly utility with Tesla’s signature tech-forward approach. It is based on the same platform as the Tesla Model S and offers two- and three-row configurations with seating for up to seven passengers. Its most distinctive feature remains the double-hinged Falcon Wing rear doors, which open upward instead of outward, giving the Model X a look and personality unlike most SUVs.
For 2020, Tesla added features such as Smart Summon and made adaptive air suspension standard. The Model X also came with all-wheel drive, a 17-inch infotainment touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, a frunk, navigation with real-time traffic updates, free charging on Tesla’s Supercharger network, LED headlights, keyless entry, power Falcon doors, and a power liftgate. Buyers also got a long list of comfort and convenience equipment, including heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, heated washer nozzles, a premium 17-speaker audio system, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Bluetooth phone pairing. On the downside, it still lacked Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the Falcon Wing doors could be tricky in tight spaces.
What makes the 2020 Model X appealing is the combination of strong range, quick acceleration, and a premium cabin packed with advanced features. Owners commonly praise its performance, technology, customization options, and Autopilot capability, while also noting that the price is high and build quality can be inconsistent. For shoppers who want a distinctive electric SUV with real space and a long list of standard equipment, the 2020 Model X remains one of the most recognizable choices in its class.

What is the 2020 Tesla Model X's resale value?
The current average of $36,390 sits slightly above last year's $35,259.
That upward move suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year, which can help support resale confidence if you buy carefully. Because prices are already above the prior-year average, a well-kept example may be easier to move later than one with visible wear or a questionable history. Strong condition and clean records matter even more when you want to protect value over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 Tesla Model X or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 3.21% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: The 2020 Model X makes the most sense if you want the familiar Tesla formula with strong owner satisfaction, a moderate supply of listings, and a market that still supports demand. If your priority is the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2020 remains the better all-around choice if you value the balance of features, satisfaction, and market stability.
