CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Honda HR-V

Summary
With 940 currently listed for sale and an average price of $17,403.00, 32.9% of 2019 Honda HR-Vs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Honda HR-V 4 / 5 stars.
60.9% of 2019 HR-V models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2019 Honda HR-V stands out as a practical subcompact crossover that blends SUV versatility with the footprint and easy handling of a smaller car. It offers a higher ride position, a large cargo area, and Honda’s strong reputation for reliability, which helped make the HR-V a popular choice for urban drivers and small families. For 2019, it also benefited from the refreshed look and extra features of the facelift, along with better noise insulation and a more refined driving experience.
What makes this model especially appealing is its flexible interior. The Magic Seat system lets the rear seats fold in multiple ways for different cargo needs, and the HR-V’s cargo space measures 58.8 cubic feet. The 2019 model also gained a new infotainment system with physical buttons and a volume knob, addressing one of the earlier car’s weaknesses. On the EX and EX-L models, Honda Sensing came standard, adding more advanced safety systems.
There are tradeoffs, though. The HR-V’s 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine makes 141hp and is tuned more for fuel economy than performance, so acceleration is not its strong suit. Some owners of first-generation HR-Vs also reported CVT problems in earlier models, especially when accelerating hard, and the infotainment system in early cars was described as slow and unresponsive. Even so, the 2019 Honda HR-V remains a sensible, comfortable, and versatile used crossover with a strong value proposition.

I like several aspects of this car. It is a small car but it sets up high making it easy to enter and exit. That is especially good for older people. The visibility is good. The ride is very comfortable for a small vehicle and it is built by Honda so the quality is very good.

This is a great car. It has so many safety features that make me feel secure driving. I purchased it used, but honestly, it looks barely used at all! It’s quiet, has a smooth ride, is very comfortable and has plenty of room for groceries, plants, luggage, a few grandkids even. Mine has new Michelin tires so that may be adding to the nice ride. I also have a moonroof which for me was a big priority. The electronics I need to get used to, but the keyless entry is wonderful. The self locking as soon as I am inside is a great feature for any woman wanting to feel safe.

Is the 2019 Honda HR-V a good car?
Generally — the 2019 Honda HR-V earns a 4/5 user rating, which points to solid owner satisfaction. Owners most often praise its smooth ride, comfortable interior, and excellent fuel economy, while also calling out its safety features and good visibility. That lines up well with its practical, versatile setup for urban drivers and small families, especially if you value easy handling and flexible cargo space over quick acceleration. With 32.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have a meaningful chance to find a strong-value example.
Is the 2019 Honda HR-V reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with praise centered on comfort, fuel economy, and everyday usability. Some owners did mention battery concerns, so a careful pre-purchase inspection matters even when the overall reputation is positive.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained well and has no hidden electrical or mechanical issues.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Honda HR-V?
At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report to confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you go any further. After that, prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, paint consistency, tires, brakes, and interior wear so you can judge whether the car’s condition matches the asking price. Because this model is often bought for practicality, focus on signs of hard use in the cargo area, seats, and controls as well.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Honda HR-V?

- Inventory: There are 989 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.24% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $16,689.05, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Honda HR-V's resale value?
The current average of $17,393 sits slightly below last year's $18,164.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also suggests future resale gains may be more gradual than they would be in a rising market. If you plan to sell later, a well-kept example with clean history and strong condition should hold up better than one with accident history or visible wear. The model’s broad appeal as a practical, efficient crossover should continue to support demand.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.24% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $16,261, the 2018 costs less than the current year's $17,393 average.
- It offers a strong value angle for buyers who want crossover usefulness without moving up in size.
The bottom line: The 2019 is the better pick if you want the refreshed features, strong owner satisfaction, and a still-reasonable market price. If your priority is saving money above all else, the 2018 is the more budget-friendly path and may be the smarter choice if you find one in cleaner condition.
