CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Honda Ridgeline
overall

Summary
With 451 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,139.00, 30.6% of 2017 Honda Ridgelines for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Honda Ridgeline 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
63.2% of 2017 Ridgeline models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline stands out immediately because it is the industry’s only unibody pickup, which gives it a character unlike most light-duty trucks. It is also described as a pickup truck that feels entirely like a car, with the added idea that it hauls lots of stuff while behaving more like an open-faced minivan than a traditional truck. That unusual formula is the Ridgeline’s main appeal: it is built for buyers who want truck usefulness without giving up a carlike driving experience.
Honda’s approach makes the 2017 Ridgeline distinctive in a segment where it does not really compete in the usual way. The truck is presented as an all-new model that shows Honda’s ability to make a seemingly foreign concept work, and owners echo that practicality by praising its smooth ride, comfort, spacious interior, and innovative cargo solutions such as the under-bed trunk. The main drawback noted is that some drivers feel it is priced too high compared with other trucks, and some would like more advanced technology in the entertainment system.

We were looking for a truck for light hauling. Not for off-road. And I didn’t want to truck that looked all tricked out and masculine. I wanted a smooth ride, and a functional truck. We ruled out other midsize trucks because they rode like a truck. And as a passenger, the ride was unsettling. I prefer a ride like butter. Then we found the Honda Ridgeline. Because it is built different than the other midsize trucks, basically a truck body or an SUV base, it rides as smooth as silk. It doesn’t look like I’m trying to be young, or masculine or tough. It’s a classy looking little truck. The electronics inside blow me away. All of the safety features, and the space inside the backseat. It was exactly what we were looking for. I just didn’t know it existed until I found the Ridgeline.

Prices have softened 5.81% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 452 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing options.
If you find a listing below $18,785.56, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Honda Ridgeline earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, comfort, spacious interior, and practical cargo solutions like the under-bed trunk. The Ridgeline also stands out for its carlike driving feel and everyday utility, which fits well if you want truck usefulness without giving up a more refined experience. Some owners do wish for more advanced entertainment technology, but the overall feedback points to a well-liked, highly practical pickup.
With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a truck that feels practical, comfortable, and easy to live with over time, with the kind of everyday usefulness that tends to support confidence in ownership. The expert review also emphasizes the Ridgeline’s carlike ride, solid build, and well-executed utility features, which reinforce its dependability-minded appeal. Honda’s maintenance perk language is not included here.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the truck’s concept and more about making sure the specific example you choose has been cared for properly and hasn’t been used harder than its design is meant to handle.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?
At 63.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing, hauling, or rough-road driving. Focus on body condition, signs of repair, and whether the truck’s practical features still work as intended. Because this model is valued for comfort and utility, you’ll want to make sure the cabin, cargo area, and drivetrain all reflect careful ownership.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Ridgeline comes only as a 4-door Crew cab with a 5-foot, 4-inch bed. The cabin uses high-quality materials in the places that matter, but there is still a lot of hard plastic, and the fully loaded Black Edition darkens the interior heavily.
- Powertrain: The Ridgeline uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and LaneWatch is also available on top trims.
- Infotainment: The truck uses an 8-inch touchscreen with HondaLink, plus available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes Garmin navigation with live traffic and pinch-to-zoom functionality.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive version is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. Over nearly 400 miles, the test truck returned almost 24 mpg.
Which 2017 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 7 trim levels: RT, RTS, Sport, RTL, RTL-T, RTL-E, Black Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The RT is the entry point, but it lacks the richer equipment and advanced driver-assistance features that show up on higher trims. If you want the Ridgeline’s core utility at the lowest price, this is the starting point, but it is the least equipped version.
- Sweet-spot trim: The RTL is the best value for many shoppers because it balances comfort, equipment, and everyday usability without pushing all the way to the top of the range.
- Premium/top trim: The Black Edition adds the most upscale presentation, including the darkened exterior treatment and the most fully loaded feel inside.
- Off-road trim: The Ridgeline is not the right choice if you plan to tow or travel off-road each week.
Honda Sensing and the available blind-spot and LaneWatch features are restricted to top trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 452 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.81% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,785.56, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?
The current average of $19,181 sits slightly below last year's $20,364.
That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean future resale gains are limited if the trend continues. For a seller, the key advantage is that the Ridgeline still has a strong practical identity and broad appeal among shoppers who want comfort and utility in one package. Its strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it comes time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline safe?
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda expects a five-star crash-test rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS, but the Ridgeline has not yet been crash-tested. The truck also comes with Honda Sensing, which includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and LaneWatch is also available on top trims.
The main caveat is that the strongest safety tech is not universal across the lineup, so you should verify which driver-assistance features are included on the specific truck you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2017 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.81% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Honda’s all-new Ridgeline formula emphasizes a carlike ride, practical cargo solutions, and everyday utility.
The bottom line: If you want the Ridgeline’s distinctive blend of comfort and utility, the 2017 model is a strong choice, especially if you find a clean example with the right equipment. If you are more price-sensitive, keep shopping and compare condition closely, since accident history and trim content can make a big difference in value.
