Yes — the 4.9/5 user rating points to very strong owner satisfaction. Is the 2016 Toyota Highlander reliable?

That combination makes it appealing if you want a used SUV you can count on for long-term family duty. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the model’s reputation and more about finding a well-kept example with clean history and consistent maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Highlander?

At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was minor or repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection so you can check for signs of uneven wear, poor repairs, or neglected maintenance. Focus on overall condition, because the best used Highlanders are the ones that have been cared for consistently rather than simply priced attractively.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $20,021, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $17,991 average.
• It adds refreshed styling and standard safety tech.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want the better value and are willing to shop carefully for condition and history. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer refresh with more standard safety equipment, the 2017 is the stronger upgrade path.
