Is the 2016 Dodge Dart a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Dodge Dart earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the sporty feel, comfort, and good fuel efficiency. The Dart also stands out for its roomy, larger-than-expected footprint and practical value, which fits shoppers who want a compact car with more presence and space. At the same time, the overview points to a car that prioritizes affordability and practicality over advanced powertrain choices.

22.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Dodge Dart reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user summary points to a car that many owners find fun to drive, affordable, and efficient, which supports a dependable ownership impression. The expert performance notes also describe the Dart as a solid commuter with a suspension setup that helps it stay composed despite its size and weight. The cost-effectiveness notes reinforce that it delivers value through size, tech, and comfort rather than flashy mechanical complexity.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that reported electrical problems and dated technology can affect ownership satisfaction over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Dodge Dart?

At 52.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on body condition, electrical operation, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering. Because the Dart’s equipment varies a lot by trim, it’s worth confirming the exact feature set before you buy.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE is the most stripped-down version, while SXT, Aero, GT, and Limited add more equipment and features. The base trim lacks the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, and the instrument cluster in SE and SXT grades is not very sharp or appealing.
• Powertrain: The Dart offers a base 2.0-liter four-cylinder, an optional 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in Aero, and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder in higher trims. The 1.4-liter turbo is tuned for low-rev cruising, while the 2.4-liter adds more power for everyday driving.
• Safety package: GT and Limited trims can be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection monitoring, rear parking assist, and smart-beam headlamps. Front crash prevention is not available in any grade.
• Infotainment: Most trims get an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, but it is not available in SE and is optional on SXT. A 7-inch TFT display is standard in Aero, Limited, and GT trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.0-liter engine returns 25 mpg city and 36 mpg highway with the manual, while the 1.4-liter turbo can achieve 28 mpg city and 41 mpg highway with the manual. The automatic transmission versions trade some efficiency for convenience.

Which 2016 Dodge Dart trim should I buy?

The 2016 Dodge Dart is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SXT, Aero, GT, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, but it is the least equipped version and misses some of the Dart’s best tech. Choose it only if your priority is the lowest possible purchase price.
• SXT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday appeal without pushing the price too high. It is a better balance of comfort and equipment than the SE.
• Aero: This is the trim to consider if you want the 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and the best fuel-efficiency story in the lineup. It suits buyers who care more about mileage than outright power.
• GT: This trim adds more power from the 2.4-liter engine and can be equipped with useful safety tech. It is a good pick if you want a more complete Dart with stronger features.
• Limited: This is the most upscale choice and the best fit if you want the most comfort and equipment the Dart offers. It is the top-end option for shoppers who want the fullest feature set.

GT and Limited trims can be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection monitoring, rear parking assist, and smart-beam headlamps.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Dodge Dart?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 22.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 235 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 52.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,132, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Dodge Dart's resale value?

The current average of $7,133 sits slightly below last year's $7,466.

That decline suggests the Dart has softened in the used market, which can be good news if you are buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. A lower current price can help attract budget-conscious shoppers, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless the car is especially clean and well equipped. Trim, condition, and maintenance history will matter a lot when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Dodge Dart safe?

The Dodge Dart earns a five-star overall crash rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings for front and side crashes and four-star ratings for rollover testing. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated it Good in all crash tests except the small-overlap test, where it earned an Acceptable rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Dart can be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-path detection monitoring, rear parking assist, and smart-beam headlamps in GT and Limited trims. Rear backup cameras are standard for models equipped with the 8.4-inch touchscreen. One important caveat is that front crash prevention is not available in any grade.

Should I buy a 2016 Dodge Dart or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 22.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year stands out for its roomy size, value focus, and available tech.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $6,784, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $7,133 average.
• It adds a Blacktop appearance package on SXT trims and offers a versatile mix of engines and trims.

The bottom line: If you want the better current-market balance of price, inventory, and feature availability, the 2016 is the stronger pick. If your budget is tighter and you can live with an older model year, the 2015 can save you money while still delivering the Dart’s big-compact appeal.

How does the 2016 Dodge Dart compare to the 2016 Ford Focus?

Our experts score the 2016 Dodge Dart 7.2/10 and the 2016 Ford Focus 7.3/10.

The Focus edges the Dart by a tenth of a point, but the Dart counters with a lower average used price and a roomier, larger-feeling body. The Focus also has a stronger deal share and a higher accident-free share, which may make it easier to shop confidently. If you want the cheaper, bigger-feeling compact, the Dart makes sense; if you want slightly stronger market quality signals, the Focus has the edge.
